Sweat the Small Stuff

Sweat the small stuff.

Okay, I know that’s contrary. Those who know me well know I like to be contrary.

Richard Carlson has sold millions (and millions) of copies of his book, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff…and It’s All Small Stuff, and rightly so, because his message is spot-on and important and I loved reading it. I may even read it again.

But I also think it’s useful, and maybe even important, to sweat the small stuff—from a totally different perspective.

Because it’s the small stuff that actually trips me up. Or makes my day. It’s the small stuff that starts the seemingly endless loop of insanity in my head, and it’s the small stuff that stops it.

It’s worrying about what someone will think, or what I did (or did wrong), that ruins my mood and my day. It’s making up stories and giving in to anxiety and dwelling on what’s been bad in the past (or might be bad in the future) that pulls me off course and envelops my soul with fear.

And it’s imagining the best, and noticing what’s right, and choosing, choosing, choosing to be present and powerful and positive that surrounds my life and essence with love.

If I sweat this small stuff—if I focus my energy on the small stuff that supports me and strengthens me—then I’m good. Very, very good.

So I’m sweating the small stuff today.
