A Woman Who Owns Her Pussy Owns Her Life: An Interview with Regena “Mama Gena” Thomashauer

Although this interview is a few years old, we’re sharing it with you to honor the life-affirming energy of “pussy” that Featured Truthteller Regena “Mama Gena” Thomashauer shares.

I am so honored to bring you this juicy, intimate conversation with one of my personal sheroes, Regena Thomashauer aka “Mama Gena.” Mama Gena is truly a living icon: a woman who has devoted her life’s work to the discipline of pleasure and uplifting the feminine.

Mama Gena has touched the lives of thousands of women through her School of Womanly Arts and her powerful programs that have helped women discover the power of pleasure. She offers an exuberant and no-holds-barred perspective on women’s personal development—and how our sexuality and aliveness contribute to it.

She’s also the author of Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts: Using the Power of Pleasure to Have Your Way with the World (2002) and Mama Gena’s Owner’s & Operator’s Guide to Men (2003). But our conversation revolved around her latest book (one of my recommended favorites), the New York Times–winning bestseller Pussy: A Reclamation.

As you can imagine, we had tons to discuss! Mama Gena and I talked about how, even though the word “pussy” is such a taboo word in our culture, it is a metaphor for women’s innate life force, divinity, joy, and enthusiasm.

[Tweet “I learned that pussy is something we can access in service of women’s aliveness. -@MamaGena”]

“The world doesn’t value, understand, or support the nature of the feminine,” she says. “But I learned that pussy is something we can access in service of women’s aliveness.” In her words, a woman who claims ownership of her sensuality completely transforms her relationship to her feminine power—and changes the world in the process. I hope you are as inspired as I was!

All I can say is WOW. I am a 70 year woman. Struggling as my third husband has deserted me for another woman. I have been beating myself up over this but after listening to this wonderful interview i realized he has done me a huge favour. I thought my life was over. I was believing all the put downs from him, his daughters and brothers. I really want and will believe there is nothing wrong with me, i have a pussy not balls. My life is just begining. Yahoo. Thank you so much.  Carol

I am not so sure about this. If you wanted the shock factor within the title…you got it. There are so many words being thrown in our faces on the daily, that we would get a beating for back in the day. Why not just call it for what it is….Vagina.

      Women For One

Thank you so much for your comment.

The title wasn’t meant to inflict shock value but to represent Mama Gena’s very important message about women claiming their bodies, their pleasure, and their power. If you listen to the interview, she speaks in depth about why she chose the title “Pussy,” and what it means to reclaim a part of our bodies that has been relegated to “locker room talk” and societal shame, as well as general misinformation.

We at Women For One applaud the women who seek to break taboos in order to support the empowerment and joy of women everywhere. We also want to stress that while many of us may be shocked and offended by the usage of this word, we believe that each of us needs to direct those feelings to the ways in which women are routinely treated every single day around the world. We appreciate your comment and we hope you will choose to listen to the interview and possibly gain further insight into the full extent of what Mama Gena is doing, and how she has helped thousands of women to connect more deeply to themselves.

I will listen to the interview. Yes, I was surprised by the title. Isn’t that something we already own? It goes where we go, and it’s a sacred part of our bodies. We choose who to share it with just like the rest of our body, our minds, and our souls. The body is our temple. Thank you for your response lovely. xx
