Interview with Colette Baron-Reid

Wf1: What is your definition of authenticity?

Colette: Ah, great question. I think that my definition of authenticity would mean that one is 100% themselves. Authenticity only comes when you are willing to fully self-examine who you are, to be clear about who you are – including the parts of you that you don’t like. So, an authentic person gets who they are, warts and all, and also understands their expression of themselves. I think that the authentic person is not afraid to be completely themselves. I can tell you that authenticity does not come with people pleasing. An authentic person is one that is strong in their personal convictions and integrity and knows themselves.

Wf1: Can you talk a little bit about the process you went through in telling your story and how it changed you and the world?

Colette: I should mention that I have a lot of practice in telling my story because I am twenty-seven years clean and sober this January 2nd. Early on, prior to ever talking about my work as an intuitive or my spiritual unfolding, I had to learn to talk about the unspeakable. At this point, it was early in my recovery in a treatment center for women. I had to talk about the things that I was the most ashamed of and afraid of in order to get to the place where I could be authentic, and to accept myself and what had happened to me. I had to take responsibility for releasing my relationship to the identity of being a victim. So, for me, telling my story started in my recovery from addiction, alcoholism and the sexual abuse I encountered. Early on, I had a lot of practice! Part of sharing yourself in a twelve step program – that’s how people get well – is the belief that you are only as sick as your secrets. For me the idea of being transparent was essential to thriving and not just surviving.

Wf1: How did you begin to “thrive” and not just survive? How did you transcend your story and move out of allowing your story to define you?

Colette: First and foremost there is a surrendering to your story and then a knowing that you don’t have to stay in your story. I was surrounded by people who had overcome their story and replaced it with a trust and faith in a higher power. I think that a relationship with a higher power and trusting that God doesn’t make junk – is essential. One more important point is that I believe that through radical self-acceptance and radical forgiveness anyone can heal anything. I would say that I overcame my story by first accepting that I could not change it. I was powerless to change the story of what had happened. But I was not powerless to change my present and future story. I knew that I had the ability to do something different and that with faith in a higher power I could accomplish anything.

Wf1: I watched a few interviews and I love that you are so grounded with your advice in your books and interviews. Can you share some tools you teach people to be even more inspired by spirit and how they can manifest that spirit into action in the world?

Colette: Getting out in nature, believe it or not, is such a great tool. If you get too caught up in your story, your ego story, you forget that you are part of a vast, vast living energy that is consciousness and intelligence. I always say just go out in nature. If you are in Hawaii, just go out in the ocean, go to a volcano. Go sit in a volcano and remember that God is in nature.

Also, sit down and review your life and say to yourself, “When in my life have I seen synchronicity line up when I thought that I had reached the end of my rope?” “When was that idea shown to me to be untrue?” With these questions, incredible things happen. So, review your life and recognize that there are points in your life where you can see that these invisible hands are coming together to make something happen. People think that they are doing everything alone and they forget that they are a part of a very vast intelligence that listens. We are a part of this collective consciousness, so we manifest our reality based on what we hold as our truths.

Wf1: As a clairvoyant, how are you able to tap into all that is concurrently happening in the universe when there is choice for each soul to make and know that you are sharing what is in each person’s highest good when you are giving a reading?

Colette: When we give a reading, we simply see what is being presented to us for each person. There are many possible paths and that person’s soul is pointing in a general direction. We see where their compass is pointing and we see what the highest good is for that person based on our vantage point. So we are really looking at maps and potentiality. I don’t believe that any of us can actually see the future 100%. So, I give my take on things according to what I’m being presented with at that time.

Wf1: I am trying to understand that if the present, past and future are all happening concurrently, how can our linear minds point people in the correct direction if there is choice in the universe?

Colette: The analytical mind cannot make sense of something that doesn’t operate in a logical sense. Your mind is trying to put it into a context that it cannot grasp. The human experience is not created to grasp that. Our logical sense of mechanics does not allow for quantum expression because we are not capable of seeing those things as humans. We can see it as a matrix, but we can’t put it into non-linear terms. You’re never going to be able to analyze it with the toolbox you were given.

Wf1: What are your thoughts about the new beginnings that are happening to the community currently on the Dec 21st date. People keep asking me about it, so I thought I would ask you.

Colette: I think that it’s just a date, like any other calendar date. It marks a specific time. Remember that the Mayans did not have just one calendar. This is one of 30 or 40. It was just the one that we found. So, I don’t think that it has the same kind of significance that a lot of people are suggesting that it has. Certainly it is not the end of the world. It is a marker of time that tells us that one calendar has ended and a new one is beginning. It is just like December 31st leading into the first of the new year.

With that said, humanity is at a tipping point of evolutionary consciousness. We are becoming more and more aware of global events and how we affect and impact one another. Our collective consciousness is more aware of everything that goes on in the world at this time. We are evolving to accommodate all that information, which was not something we were ever exposed to before now. There is definitely a new age beginning now, but, because we see our world through a very limited scope, it’s not as we think. We are expecting Armageddon to happen or some other great event. The shift is much more subtle than that. It’s a marker in our evolutionary cycle of becoming more unified in our consciousness.

Interestingly enough, the Internet has already opened that unification up for us. The technology has allowed us, for the first time in human history, to see everything that is going on in the human world at the same time. Our human species has not accommodated for that growth yet. Children can compute things much more easily than we do as we get older. So it’s much more of a concept of global consciousness.

Additionally, I believe we are going to have an opportunity to say no to global destruction. I think that it is really important to recognize that right now we are in this wonderful, wonderful place of making choices that are supportive of human life and of all life. Through our choices we can prevent a lot of horrible things from happening.

Wf1: You have a new book coming out in January, Weight Loss for People Who Feel too Much. Can you tell me about it?

Colette: Now, more than ever, as part of this human evolution we are starting to feel too much. We are all starting to be very, very intuitive about what’s going on in the rest of the world. Many of us are suffering from empathy overload. My new book, Weight Loss for People Who Feel Too Much gives a program that, even if you don’t have an actual physical weight problem, enables you to set some pretty awesome energetic boundaries so that you can expand your consciousness without expanding your waistline.

Wf1: So it supports people that have issues with being able to lose weight, but what about people are too thin and have a problem coming into balance with their weight?

Colette: It’s actually the same issue. When applying the principles in my book, those people will stop losing weight and the people who gain weight will stop gaining weight. It’s a balancing act.

Wf1: What is one piece of wisdom you would most like to share with our community?

Colette: Play nice in the sandbox! Share your toys! Always be kind to animals. Eat cruelty-free as best as you can and treat every single thing as if the God in all life mattered. One of my favorite books is Behaving As If the God in All Life Mattered by Machaelle Small Wright.

Also, please share your joys. Be nice to one another. Trust that the invisible world is just as important as the one that you look at.

And one last piece of advice…

Every thought is a seed. You are either going to plant seeds or weeds.

Wf1: I wish you well Colette. Thank you so much for the work that you do. You inspire me and many women throughout the world.
